SO I bought my 66 F-250 a couple weeks ago and it runs pretty sweet, but the interior needs a lot of work. I got the wipers to work by replacing the motor and transmission arms and all, and finally got at least one little blinky light in the dash to work when the turn signal's on (funny - he same light in the dash blinks regardless of which turn signal's on.....) so I can stop going down the road with the perpetual turn signal on - gotta fix that cancellation thing still.
Anyway, drove the Old Gal to work yesterday and watched it pour down rain outside most of the day - thinking "go ahead and rain - I got me some WIPERS now. I can take on anything. Wouldn't ya know I got in the truck at the end of a long day and them dang wipes just refused to budge!!! Then they got them turn signals in on the whole deal and they wouldn't work neither! I'm gonna sit down after I get my coffee and give her a good talkin to, of course 'pologizin for any perceived slight I may have let out about her.
Now i have to 'mit I ain't had a lot of experience with these here wom.... uh, trucks, so any of ya'll that got some tips for me, bring em on....
If you have the custom dash, sweeping speedo, there will only be the 1 flasher indicator light. If recall, the left indicator on the cluster works for both, and there should be a center light for hi/low beams, could be wrong. Some of the Custom Cab instrument clusters, particularly with the sweeping speedometer, were made of plastic so want to make sure well grounded from metal portion of cluster to underside of dash. Found may of the problems I experience with the 65 was due to poor ground, particularly where repainted. I purchase few extra ground straps and placed them in critical locations. Took a mini wire wheel, and/or small piece of sandpaper and cleaned the strap and fastener then added dab of diaelectric grease before securing it to surface, particularly under hood, frame, and to include dab inside harness connectors. Compared to the new fangle trucks, these vintage rides are about as basic as you can get. Once you work the bugs out the little darlin will be as reliable as when she came off the showroom floor.
i went out to have a chat with my gal, and whaddaya know - the wipers worked just fine, and that dang turn signal is back on the job! Musta been a bit put out about bein' left out in the rain, but that's where she belongs..... May have to do a little reconstructive surgery on her if she's a-gonna act like this when it rains.
Dave - thanks for the tips - she does have the custom instrument panel with the sweeping speedometer. i thought I was losing it with just one blinky thang in the dash regardless of which way I'm turning. I'll try that whole grounding thing next time I get under her skin.
Yep one blinker light for both directions. The other slot on the opisite side is for the high beams. I always figure back then people were smarter and knew that pushing the turn signal arm up ment you were turning right and down ment left and they didn't need a light to tell them that.
I would take the time to take all the wire connections apart, clean them and put them back together. Use dielectric grease on all of them and they will last forever and wont give you headaches down the road. Oh yeah and don't forget to disconnect the battery before you take the inst cluster out.
fixing the turn signal is easy I just did it to my dads truck (he took the tan one) the part was $15 at NAPA changed the top part of the turnsignal splice two wires and it worked great. I dont have the part number with me just ask for the repair kit
Yep, the common turn signal indicator is above the 90 and the high beam indicator is above the 10. I suppose those locations could be swapped to your personal preference.

You will need a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel and when you do, here's something else to replace. On the upper flange is a bearing and retainer. By now, they are shot. These two parts fit 100's of Ford's and are still available from Ford and parts stores.
To remove the horn ring, press down gently and turn the ring to the left. Take care..the plastic retainer that holds the ring on has three plastic ears. They always break. Here's the number just in case.
