Electric fuel pump

I would like to know if an electric fuel pump is an upgrade from the mechanical pump?
If it is, Can you tell me how I can go about making the upgrade?

Thanks

John, my answer is no. The mechanicals work too well with carburetor engines and don't often fail.

i have had more electric fuel pumps fail than mechanical..so i have to go along with jowilker.. when i pulled the old 302 out of my 72 back in 2004 for rebuild it had 211,000 miles and still had the original fuel pump. of course i replaced it during the rebuild. it will probably last for a long time

I have used both over the years with good results. I prefer electric because they prime the carb when you run out of gas (it happens) and you can easily tell if it is working. Other that that who knows, especially not me.
