I am a new user and love this site. I have already saved lots of money with the very good information from here. I have a question on my 2001 SD. I read in another forum that you could remove the plastic stoper behind the headlight switch to get your fog lights to come on with your running lights. I did so and no such luck still no fog lights untill you turn on the headlights. the **** no pulls out in both posithions but does not activate the fog lights untill you move it to the headlight position. Someone stated about jumping two wire to fix this any ideas.
No way are the foglights coming on without the lowbeams being on. There is a foglight relay that is fed by the foglight switch, and the foglight switch gets it's power from the lowbeam power wire.
If you want to fudge this setup, there is a 5 amp #31 fuse in the main fuse box that feeds a white/black wire that feeds the foglight switch. If you put power on this wire, the foglights should work anytime you turn the foglight switch on, but you will have to cut this wire completely in two and feed the foglight switch seperately. If you just tie into the white/black with power, then it will feed backwards up into the lowbeam circuit and turn it on, unless you put a diode inline to block the backfeed current.
Thanks. I took a look at it last night and if you cut the white wire with the black stripe and tape off the end of it that goes back to the wiring hasrness. Then take the end of it that goes into the plug that plugs into the headlight switch and jump it to the brown wire that runs the parking lights then you have fog lights when you pull your switch out and when the high beams are on.
