Hey All,
I recently bought some Outback seats thru Summit and have run up on a problem. The seats are universal and I can't find any brackets to mount them into my '90 B2. Has anyone else done a seat swap and had this problem? Was thinkin of trying to knock out the plastic fasteners in my original seat brackets then mount the new seats. I appreciate any and all advice, help, pros and cons! I have looked at the Smittybilt sites (BTW..the Outback seat is from Smittybilt!)and on Summit but all I find is brackets for the F250 and up. No universal brackets to speak of except the one for the plastic race seats. In all of your opinions...would the race brackets wo9rk in my situation? Summit also has the 'slider' mechanism for their universal bracket.
Ok...starting to ramble...
Again, thanks for the help!
Not sure if the Corbeau (?) BII hardware will work with those seats or not, but those are the only ones I know of (truckperformance.com). Other than that, if the seats are similar on the bottom to the stock seats, you can try using the stock hardware and bolt it to the new seats. There is a list of OEM Ford seats from other cars and trucks that will fit the BII hardware... and if I remember right, it's on therangerstation.com. Hope this helps some
I thought factory B2 brackets worked on most types of universal seats. At most you might have to drill a hole or two. MasterCraft told me when I bought seats from them that many seat mfrs build to fit Ford B2 and EB seat brackets because they are pretty much universal. Try calling MC if you don't find an easy solution. They may be able to help.
OK.....
I am waiting for my carpet I bought from Summit to get here b4 I take the old seats out. I have been lookin at the brackets and I am thinkin that I will just have to knock out some plastic fasteners and/or drill a hole or two and will be fine. BUT...by all means please feel free to continue to throw your advice/thoughts my way about swapping these seats out! I don't want to get myself in a bind.
Well, first off... I wouldn't be re-carpeting... I'd be taking out the carpet and Herculining the interior! To each their own, and if that's what you want to do (recarpet), by all means, do so -- and yeah, I would wait so I didn't have to pull the seats out twice too. I think you should be okay using your existing seat hardware, you may have to make some modifications here and there, but should be okay. Hopefully, your existing hardware is in good shape -- I have to do some repairs and overhaul to my passenger seat's hardware, as well as replace the seatbelts, at least the parts that bolt to the floorboard / seat runners. Let us know how things turn out!
Hey KP,
I am doin the liner thing b4 I put in the new carpet. Was thinkin of goin with undercoating after I do some sanding and general cleanup. I will keep you all posted on my progress.
I wouldn't even bother with the carpet if you're going to use Herculiner or Line-X or other brand of spray/roll-on bedliner, personally. No worrying about water retention or otherwise, and you won't have to worry about dirying up the carpet. But as I said, to each their own... if that's how you want to do it, that's cool. Look forward to seeing the progress!
