cruise control switch source

I have been working on my cruise control and have discovered it is the switches in the horn pad that are bad. I need to know if you can still buy these or am I just out of luck. Anyone have a set they would sale for that matter.

Have you tried cleaning them? They may start working.

Ding Ding Ding

Just the switches

I saw them this afternoon.

Note: It is a common occurance for these switches to become useless.

The rocker action breaks and the switch acts loose (because it is)

Take care in buying one off ebay, there are many different types and only the correct one will fit. These are DUAL switches, one right, one left....they are wired together.

Is yours: OFF-ON-RESUME-SET ACC-COAST? This type (1980/86-factory installed) was not sold separately originally and only came with the horn pad.

There is another one with similar markings to the one above: OFF-ON SET ACC-COAST and was used 1978/81 (D8AZ-9C888-A) and was sold separate. It fits 1978/79 E-F-U100/350 and 1978/79: T-Bird / Mark V / Granada / Monarch / LTD II / Cougar.

Most of the time the contacts are oxidized and just need to be cleaned and polished. Use electrical contact cleaner not WD-40 or something else. I usually buy contact cleaner at Ace Hdw. or Radio Shack. Use a small strip of cardboard (like from the back of a lined writing pad) as a burnishing tool to polish the contacts. Never, ever use sandpaper, files, emory to work on contacts--it usually destroys them. Be aware that there are about 26 pages in the Ford "1983 Light Truck Shop Manual -Vol. A., Body, Chassis, Electrical" dedicated to the troubleshooting, diagnosis, testing, adjustment and repair of the speed control system. Anything beyond the simple problems such as switches, vacuum leaks, blown fuses, misadjusted brake pedal or clutch pedal switches and broken wires or connections will almost certainly require access to the manual unless you have available spare components for trials.

I have the 86 ford shop manual volume A that Piffrey1 is speaking of.The way I found out mine were bad is just by swapping parts from my other truck that the cruise control works on and narrowed it down that way. Mine are original equipment and have on and off on the left side and resume on the left of the right switch and set accel coast on the right of the right switch. I just want the swiches not the whole horn pad. I will try to clean mine when I get more time. Mil1ion if you have a set will you sale them and for how much.
