Just completed a 1,680 trip with my F350 crewcab 6.4 dually 4wd with 4:30 gears. The rig weighed 21,420 at truck stop scale with 5,440 on front axle, 7,320 on rear, and 8,660 on trailer axles. Hauled a living quarter gooseneck horse trailer from Florida to Virginia. In a word---the truck is awesome. It is quiet, comfortable, and powerful. The brake controller, nav unit, dual temp controls, trailer mirrors, steering wheel controls, stereo system with sirius satellite, etc. made the trip unbelievable enjoyable. The 6.4 and auto tranny work smoothly and flawlessly. Easily maintained 50 mph up an 8% grade going over the eastern continental divide and just as easily maintained a safe speed down that grade with the tranny and engine working together so only an occassional touch on the brakes was needed. No problems or concerns of any nature. There is no comparison to this new truck and my old 99 with a 7.3. The old truck was very well equipped too, with a Banks performance package and exhaust brake. This truck is far superior. Can't understand folks lamenting the loss of their old 7.3.
The fuel mileage for the entire trip, including idling, was 8.2, which is just a touch worse than the old 7.3 would have gotten on the trip. I will gladly pay a little more for fuel for this truck, and recommend an auxilliary fuel tank which extended my cruising range to about 700 miles. There are still some places that do not have the ultra low sulfur fuel, like the Flying J in S. Carolina, and 2 other places we tried, so you have to plan your fuel stops to make sure you can find the right fuel, especially if you can only carry the stock 38 gallons.
Highly recommend the new truck to anyone considering the purchase.
