'92 Bronco 4X4 System

My 4WD push button system worked not to long ago. The other day I went to use it and it did not work. Could someone please tell me what could be wrong. I know it is not the fuse because I checked that. I am not much of a car person so just try and lead me in the direction. When I push the button normally I can hear the 4X4 lock but not there is nothing, not even the light. Please Help. E-Mail me at wtappe@fbtc.net if you have a chance.

I have the same problem now and then. It usually comes from lack of use. The contacts in the shift motor get corroded. Turn on your key then listen at the passenger side kick panel as you press the 4x4 button. That is where the control unit is. If you can hear a relay clicking, it is probably ok. Go under the truck on the back of the transfer-case, this is where the shift motor is (it looks like a power window motor). I usually take a rubber mallet and give the shift motor a lite tap on the gear-case. Sometimes this is enough to get them to work. If not, it may need to be repaired or replaced.
