ok hello this my first post , i have a 06 i am trying to fix ,head gasket blew when pulling 14k rv trailor at 4000km. know has 14000km, head gasket gone again soon as hooked to trailor pulling up hill we used 6c3z6051-a head gasket and apr studs when doing repair , build date on truck is 02/2006 . ford eng had us do all checks boost at 28 psi . they say change out gasket again and they tell us they don't have this type of this problem only when person chips unit, it also has mbrp 4'' exh . my question is is there any thing else i can do to prevent we have check all clearances ,any solutions out there maybe a better gasket or smallor trailor thanks sunset
If the heads are not flat, new headgaskets and bolts will not stop the problem. If the head flatness is off by more than 0.002 of an inch then the head needs to be replaced.
Well if everything is in spec and you are not running a chip/tuner, then off the top of my head, the gaskets were not properly installed when they were replaced.
Have you ever seen boost over 30 psi while towing?
we are not sure if unit is chipped or not , cust says no,turbo is not blue from heat. we did change the heads first go around with new from ford
Well a couple of clues to look for, was the cam recently cleared/reset in the PCM prior to bringing it in to you? This would be a sign that they may have removed a tuner.
If it was an inline chip/module (ie Banks, Edge, Dr.P) then you could look at the swirl patterns on the piston tops or send pictures of them to FMC engineer. The patterns are different on a chipped engine than on stock engine.
As long as EGT temps are within range the turbo is not going to change color, but you can still lift the heads with a chip/tuner and not run excessive EGT.
Maybe Matt will see this thread and have some more answers or ideas.
It sounds like you are a Ford diesel tech. We have a few on the boards, here is a link to the list. PM them direct and ask them their thoughts on your situation.
