Question 38 gallon tank...

I am thinking of changing my fuel tank to the LMC 38 gal. tank. It would be installed on a 1977 f150, reg. cab, and yes the spare tire is in the bed. I would appreciate any input, pro or con or other wise on this subject. Thanks.

Would have to move the spare, if you still have it under the bed, and would have to fork out a lot more $$$$$ to fill

ok, other than the obvious, looking for install pro's or con's. Maybe someone has put one in and there are little modifications that would be useful. Thanks for the input.

To my knowledge, all that is required is installing longer straps to hold it up (larger tank). LMC and JC Whitney should have them. I'm doing that after I get my engine rebuilt and adding the aux tank too. It WILL cost more $$$ to fill up, but will triple the range. ( Planning on a week-long elk hunt w/o worrying about gas)

I think a couple people have used a 78-79 Bronco tank (getting ready to try it myself). They're either 33 gallons, or 25 for the regular one. New ones are WAY cheaper then the aftermarket style tanks. That and you can get a factory skid plate for the Bronco tank if you need one.

When I heal, I need to get the Bronco tank up in my F150 while the bed is still off, other then it's deeper, don't look to be a real problem...

scotwendt - I assume the new exhaust won't be close to the fuel ?? That "wet stuff" will POOF after it boils for a while.

I have either the 38 or 40 gal tank installed and I believe I bought it from either LMC or Autocrafter. The tank was delivered as was a length of copper tubing to extend your pickup tube. It also came with nuts/bolts and galvanized tubing so that you could use your original tank straps. I dont particullarly like the look of the galv tubing used as spacers, but until I can get a custom set of straps made they will do fine.
My dual exhaust exits from the back as well. The exhaust is'nt close enough to the tank to heat up the fuel. You wont have any problems.

I'm happy with the tank so far, except when I have to fill it up.

I am glad to hear pos. results. I will probably not let it get below half anyway, just nice when your way out from town. My econoline has a large tank and I fill it when it's @ the half. Thanks for the reply.
