ABS Problem

Hello. I have a 2001 F-150 RCab Flareside 4.2 V6 5spd man pickup with 55000 miles on the odometer. I have a 4-wheel ABS problem. On startup, the ABS self-check performs and the ABS warning light extinguishes properly. On forward movement of more than 2mph the ABS light illuminates and remains so until ignition shut off. The ABS appears not to be functioning as the rear wheels lock up, and there is no pulsating sensation in the pedal, on hard braking. However, the braking system in general appears to be functioning perfectly. I have checked the front and rear sensors, the wiring harnesses, connectors, brake pads, rotors, the control module, and hydraulic unit. There are no visual indications of any malfunction. The truck is garaged in northern Spain. I can´t take this truck to a dealer because Ford Europe doesn´t officially service the F-150 in Spain. My F-150 is the only officially registered/homologated F-150 in Spain. This fault just began one morning on first movement after initial startup. Any ideas short of electronic diagnostics and replacing all the sensors? Thanks. Yankee Messenger

Are your front and rear tires the same size? It sounds like the front sensors and the rear sensor are feeding the ABS module conflicting information. If the speedometer is working, then I suspect the problem is in the front.

same thing happened to me more than likely the rear speed sensor located on the top of the differential takes 5 mins to replace (very easy) and only costs like $15 from ford that is the only place I have found them so it might be tough for you to get one.

also your wheels aren't supposed to lock up with abs if they do your abs isn't functioning properly.

The front and rear tires are the same size (265/70R17) Michelin Pilot 113M&S installed in February. The speedometer is working.

Also, I thought I made it clear that the wheel lockup was one of the symptoms of my malfunctioning ABS. If not, I apologize. Thanks for the help. I can get a relative to send me the rear sensor from the States via priority mail.
