FORD in their service info just calls it a 8.8 Ford. These quotes are from the FORD manual.
"An embossed metal tag, bolted to the rear face of the RH axle tube, contains front axle identification information."
"SECTION 205-03:
Front Drive Axle/Differential — Ford 8.8-Inch Ring Gear"
Get the model ID off of the tag and I may be able to find in in my reference. This tag is off of my rear axle and a code # like "S-869-B" is the thing you'll be looking for. It'll probably be a 31 spline though.

The front 'axle' is a Ford 8.8 IFS. It uses reverse cut gears, and the ring gear is 8.8 inches in diameter (hence the "8.8"). Im not sure on the spline count, but it's probably somewhere around 28 on the CV shafts.

The 9.75 has 31 spline axleshafts.
I read somewhere that it was a 34 spline the 9.75, also is the bolt patturn on the front facing 8.8 the same a a rear one?
Why? your diff is hidden behind the suspension crossmembers. Its tucked in out of harms way, you can't even see it.
Theres no need for a differential skid plate on the front of these trucks, unless you get a 4 or 6 inch lift, and those usually include a big skid plate that protects alot more.
That cover you see is meant for a Solid front or rear axle in which the diff cover is exposed.
It is not hidden, it is behind the crossmember but is abit lower than it.
I knew it was for a solid 8.8 I was just wondering if I could fit it on the front, I dont think I could because the diff has a attachment on the front of it with a bushing.
