Suspension Upgrade

I am picking up a 97 F150 front suspension with crossmember. Has anyone here modified one to a 81 F100?

I haven't tried it, but I'm really curious to see how it would work. Did it come with the steering gear? Any pictures?

It looks like it can made to work with some frame fabrication. I found some drawings and picutres of both in some reference material I have here. The 97 is notched up and the crossmember and steering assembly mount from underneath. The 81 frame is straight, sandwiched between the cross member that mounts inside the frame, and the shock tower which mounts on the outside. It might be worth trying to get the front frame section from the 97 also...fabricating that section into the existing 81 frame might help keep the geometry straight.
