trailer lights

Hi I have a 99 250 sd and I cant get my trailer lights to work. I bought the plug in for the wiring harness and still nothing. I bought this used so I dont know if it came with tow from the factory. I heard that if it didnt a fuse for the trailer lights would have to be installed? Anyone else heard anything about that or have any ideas? thank matt

First, did you check the plug for power to make sure if the problem is with the truck or the trailer?

Second, what lights aren't working, left, right, backup, running?

Third, what harness did you buy?

Fourth, what kind of connector 7-way blade (RV), 7 way round, 6 way round, 4 flat?

The fuses I think you are referring to are for the trailer brakes, and trailer battery charge circuits, are these what you are trying to get working?

I bought my four flat conector from bumper to bumper. The lights on my truck work fine its just that nothing works on my trailers. But I dont know the names of the fuses, it was something my buddy told me about

Check for power through the trailer plug itself. Are you sure the trailer lights themself work? Check for a good ground also.

Check the power distibution box under the hood. Small black box on driver's side. Look for blown fuses for trailer lighting.

It's in the owners guide. If you don't have one go to this site and you can look it up online.
