My rear end continues to leak a little grease out of the vent tube. I think this problem may have been happening for some time due to the accumulation of caked on grease and dirt around the area. I would like to check the grease level to see if it is over or underfilled but I can see no filler plug on the rear to do this. My Chilton manual does not show one either and does not tell you how to do it.
I believe I have a standard 9" rear, so how do I do this simple procedure?
I understand the procedure on how to check and add grease. My rear end lacks the filler plug, at least that I can see. The exploded picture in my manual does not show one either.
some housings did not have a fill plug, and some center sections the same. I think I remember some of the WAR centers not having fill holes like the Nodular ones. Anyway, there has to be some place to add fluid. If it has fliud (not grease) in it, then it had to get in there somehow. Removing the center section would let the fluid out, but would make it impossible to put fluid back in.
If you do not have a fill plug on the housing, then it has to be on the center section just to the side of the pinion. it will be on the drivers side.
Could not see anyone installing a WAR center on an early housing with no fill plug. That would be nonsense.
Thanks 4 the pic Mil1ion. After scraping grease and dirt off the plug was found. I do not know why the diagram in my manual does not show it. It was not where I expected to find it based on past Fords I owned and I feel like a dummy!
