any one care to chime in on wich tunes to go with? I am thinking heavy tow is a must considering my trailer loaded is a skosh over 17k, aggressive street sounds fun but some body let me know what you all think abought his best play time tunes, also I want MRXLH's ultra economy tune that one has convinced me that Matt's the only way to go.
Hotrodds, we got a lot of similar stuff. I too just ordered the SCT from Matt. I plan on stacking the tuners to get the best of both worlds. I'm thinking of the 3 tunes being the Heavy tow, one of the super silly tunes and not sure of the 3rd since I don't just cruise it empty much. I haul a few dirtbikes in the back during the winter months, so maybe the ultra economy tune would be good for that as well as the occasional commute to work.
I am also curious about the effectiveness of running, let's say the heavy tow tune on the SCT and maybe bumping up the Banks a level or two. I really don't know how in-line tuners "add power". Are they smart enough to work effectively and safely off whatever Base tune is loaded? or is it imperative that the base tune be stock? Does the Banks simply modify the stock tune, or does it have a predetermined program for every level? Im guessing it just modify's the base programming. irregardless of what it may be. Thanks ~Brad
I will only run the sct standalone as the banks just adds fuel I have run it with the hypertech to make up for poorly written fuel strategy but with a correct fuel strategy the pcm will do all I want without risking my engine I would strongly recommend you not to use it at all with a flashed pcm unless you have studs & fire rings as I am sure you will have them after you try. I will just be using the banks as a system monitoring device set at level 1 & locked let me know how you're ft pulls my cf is +3' and I love it installed satellite tv in nov & I pretty much live in it all winter at Gordons Well.
i am running the agg. street tune and it runs great. lots of power very little smoke when you romp on it and it shifts smooth. ran a race tune at one point and it shifted hard which is no problem unless you have a 2 1/2 year old in the back seat sometimes.
for as for now i like the agg. street and i'm running that unless Matt comes up with something better for my needs. no towing for me it's just a toy so i can't help on any tow tunes.
I agree. I like the power of the Banks, but the inability to electronically shut down the EGR strategy and little to no trans shifting improvement is the main reason I want the SCT as a base program. I plan on leaving the setting in Level 1 and use the PDA for it's gauges and stuff. I'm still curious about how the Banks interacts with the Base PCM program. For example, if I run the Ultra Economy tune on the SCT, will I be able to safely go to level 2 or 3 on the Banks? Just wondering if anyone has done this and what were their findings. Simply trying to understand how the systems interact. Oh, I've never tried to "lock" the Level on the Banks...how is this done, aside from just unplugging it?
bgmspd thanks for the info & i had forgotten the egr shutoff! brad the banks just modifies the signals to the pcm & tricks it into abelife that all is normal as it dumps virtualy unregulated fuel into the cyls, this is fine if you understand what can happen and prepare youre engine appropiatly to live under massive cylinder pressures, so basicly put the systems dont really work together its more like the banks just overides the pcm's strategy by telling it false information, kind of like congress!
HotRod, depending on your needs, The canned performance file is a good place to start to see what you like/dislike about it. Matt will not steer you wrong, if you listen to his suggestions and be absolutly honest on what you are going to do with the truck and how you drive it, he'll hit the nail on the head usually by the 2nd or 3rd try and it will be perfect.
thats why I chose him as there are 3 or 4 sct dealers on the way home from work 1 is even a guy i started out on diesel 15 years ago but none of them have a reputation like Matt's
its here & Matt hook me up with some really nice files wow does it pull from the line & makes boost very nicely right where I need it shifts like a dream after relearn & generaly kicks a$$ only 1 small issue with stumble but I think it is more fuel slosh as tank was very low over all I am very pleasedgot to change my sig line now
Matt and I are still working on it. As soon as were happy with the numbers, several others will have to test it. Jermey will run it in his own truck. I know he will be pretty happy to step down in power.............not.
