ok i have a 87 F150 with a 4.9 4 speed.the problem i am having is the truck will run for a few days and then all of a sudden it acts like it is running out of gas.if i turn the key on and off a few times it will start and run for a few seconds and die.the pump on the frame will whine really loud.i can hear the pump running.it does this on both tanks.if it sits for about 30 minutes,it will run like nothing is wrong.i ahve replaced the pump on the frame twice and the filter, fixed ground wires and added a few.replaced battery cables, relays, coil, injectors, regulator.i tryied the ecm and distributor.i am lost with this thing and dont know where else to turn.my scanner said a bad primary fuel circuit and thats when i replaced the relays and that took care of that.so what else can it be that i am missing?help.
the thing is it does it on both tanks.so thats making me think it isnt the pumps.i think i have all the grounds done as well.this thing will run for a few days and the dies.then i try again and does it all over.
check to see if you are getting 12v to all the injectors next time she dies. That and run some Sea Foam through the feul system. Could be that yout fuel rails are gummed and and there's a hunk kinda hanging/dangling there that happen to twist just the right way to screw everything up. Seen stranger things happen
ok i can try that.the thing is i replace the injectors and fuel rail too.another thing is this thing will idle till it is blue in the face but once u get a load on it,it stumbles and dies.
seems to be that you have replaced almost anything part that could cause the problem except for in tank pumps but that would be answered by pressure testing. Both of the checks I told you about are cheap and easy. No sense in throwing more parts at it till a few things have been narrowed down
thats true about throwing more money and parts into it.just makes me think the wiring harness is messed up somewhere but i would hate to replace that.i hope that doing this will tell me that is my problem.
that's what checking for 12v at the injector plugs will tell you. the injectors are fired off the ground wire. Work your way from 1-6 and if you find one that's not getting 12v pull the meter out of the ground wire plug and ground it to something else. if you get 12v then that's where the problem with the ground wire starts and you'll have to rerun the ground from that point
i'm just tossing out idea's, but have you ever drained your tanks?? is it possible that there's a pile of water in there that's messing things up?? that would sure make it run like its missing fuel.
lol...had some wet premium in the sled this winter...ran like it was going dry...then the carbs froze up...(sorry, off topic) but thats what it reminds me of...
nope replaced the front tank and just dropped the rear tank to replace the vent valve on top and the plug for the sending unit.also the rear tank was just filled saturday.damn i am getting more replys here than from the other forum.thanks for what u guys are telling me
