Terrible Knock
We don't drive our truck much in winter, more for the trailer. Last time i drove it was about 2 months ago, changed the oil, drove about 5 mi and parked it out front. Yesterday went to drive it. Started it and it had a wicked knock in it, good oil pressure, drained oil and cut open filter, no crums in it though. I mean a bad knock, not a rattle. has anyone had anything close to this noise? can't really trace the noise, so loud on topend but just as loud underneath. Maybe a stuck valve or something. Is this motor an interference motor?

How long did the knock last? I would think that it would go away in a minute or two. Did you give it a little gas (just enough to raise the rpm's a bit) maybe that will free up whatever is hung up.

Sorry about the lack of info, 1999 6.8l v10 f350 sd cc auto 68000 mi. It sounds like one cylinder knocking, removed the fan belt and ran it for about 2 minutes, just to eliminate a/c, ps, alt, etc. Noise never changed a bit. I hadn't started it in about two months, checked oil before we drained it, all OK. tomorrow will remove rocker covers and check stuff. Dont know what to check though. hope something easy looks broken.Does anyone know if the top end in these motors oil well? Almost sounds like a valve stuck open and the cam is hammering on the lifter, just so loud it sounds like it could be a bearing, never had anything but good luck with this motor though.
