im swapping the carburetor on my 87 351 and was wondering if there are any guides to follow because im kind of in the dark. So far ive been marking hoses and things so i dont get them mixed up.
Bad i am in the process off the same thing on my 88 250 windsor. it is a bitch, had it running yesterday with my single wire hei distributor and jumping the fuel pumps. it started leaking coolant out of the intake. i tore it all back down and started over. not gonna touch it today, all i have to do is hook all the hoses and wires again and blammo. A fast approach to your questions look up a user named Gustang818. just type his name in the search section and look through his posts until you find the ones related to this job. he had a wealth of knowledge on the wiring the fuel pumps. if you are gonna keep the factory fuel pump set up buy yourself a fuel pressure regulator for a return hose set up. it will be a 3 port reg. mine was a holley pretty reasonable. If i had it to do over i would probably stay with a ford durasparkII . my hei is cool and works well but it is big and has caused the loss of some other functions. particullarly the heater hose off the manifold sucked and the built in water temp sensor off that hose. on the other side of the distributor is another temp sensor fitting and that one is really crowded also. i used a performer and a thermoquad with a one inch spacer/adapter, so my air cleaner space looks pretty small, havent crossed that bridge yet. It is not cheap or easy so be real certain before you continue. good luck and welcome aboard. Dan
