Also, I am in need of a master cylinder - so if anyone can tell me the crossover models, it would really help me out with the scrapyards. What type of brake fluid is used - DOT3? The truck has also been sitting for a while without the MC so is there anything I can do to "flush" the system and make sure the system will work?
Most all fords will use DOT 3, unless your in a really heavy duty vehicle like a dump truck. You can't test the seals with out pressure, but you could pull the wheel cylinders and rebuild them.
Yes DOT 3 is the right fluid. but why waste your time with a used one you know nothing about. As for other models try E250's, big old lincolns too. Maybe the 1 tons use the same master cylinder also. I suggest you just get a re-man or new master cylinder so that way you know seals n everything are new, but thats just my opinion.
I got a reman @ Oreilley auto today for ~$25. Thanks for the idea about getting the new instead of the junkyard! I didn't know they were so inexpensive. I need to make a drivers rear steel brake line - anybody know an approximate length so I can go buy a premade?
Kool, what is the part number n manufacturer on that master cylinder? if thats not too much trouble. As for that line id just measure how long it is sittin as is in the truck.
I'll have to grab it from the garage - I think you can look it up on Oreillyauto.com and just do a search for 1975 F250 Master Cylinder - it was 18.99 plus an 8 dollar core charge (don't have the core!). Should give you the info...
I'll have to guestimate on the length - Oreilly has straight brake line tubing, in all kinds of length and diamters, with ends installed, so all I need to do is bend it. I would measure the original, but it is MIA...Just wondering does anyone know brake line diameter?
Yeah, well heres n idea take some mechanics wire and go from the beginning of where you are going to replace it to the end then measure that. and for diameter of the line just measure any steel line thats running along the frame of your truck.

sounds good! I have to get a new one also and am going to do a reman like i did on my trans am i used to have. Going to see if Advance and Auto Zone are comparable in price to oriellys...if not then i'll have to make a special trip and involve seeing cliff and others.
