Gauges Finally In! Yipee

Well after a few days working on and off, I finally got em in. A couple of questions:

When I got my pyro out of the box the needle was between 0 and 16. When I hooked it up it sits on about 200 when I turn the key on. I was wondering if that is normal. It runs about 600 running about 60 to 65 mph. It doesn't take long to get it to 1000.
My boost stays between 0 and 5 when off. I got it up to about 13 one time when I mashed on it some. I blew the tube out of the rubber boot that came with the gagues. I may have to fix that different if I keep blowing it off.
My trans temp was 150 just running around after warmed up.

Thanks!

I have about the same set up as you and my pyro is 600 to 700 between 60 and 70 above that and it climbs to 800. I noticed with it at tow safe like you have yours that I can floor it and it will hit 1200 but never go past without me letting off the throttle. So thats good I guess. My boost is 5 psi when cruising but will go all the way up to 25 if I get on it hard in OD your boost seems a little low to me at only 13. My boost tube kept flying off to I used some super glue and zip ties to keep the little tube in the boot and the boot on the fitting as I had both fly off at one time or the other

Congrats on the new guages. Boost seems low, or did the tube blow off before it got any higher? Try an AIH(air intake heater) delete with boost fitting, that will eliminate the tube from blowing off at all. Pyro and trans temps also seem right.

Who makes this setup? Just curious. Where is the boost tube mounted, in a tee between the manifold and MAP sensor?

They are Auto Meter and yes it is in a tee between the manifold and MAP sensor.

As far as the boost goes, that is as high as I have seen it. I haven't got on it too hard so it might be a little higher. It blew out before it got up to 13.

dont use that cheap little POS autometer sends... Get a 1/4" brass T from Home depot, two 1/4" NPT x 1/4" barbed fittings and a 1/4 NPT X 1/8" compression fitting. Put this together and T into the MAP line. No boost leaks.

Yep, that is probably what I end up doing. If I had just thought I would have done it at first.

That's not normal! The pyro gauge should always read the temp of the probe, and key on or off should not effect the reading. The pyro gauge is just a milli-volt meter hooked to a thermocouple by two wires, and should me totally independent of all truck wiring.

The boost should read 0 psi with the engine off. It sounds like it's sometimes hanging up at 5 psi. When you get this reading with the engine off, try tapping on the gauge and see if it returns to 0. The max of 13 psi is low, at WOT you should see 18 psi or more on a stock engine.

This sounds about right. This reading depends a lot on ambient temp, and on how often you run with the TC unlocked, which builds heat quickly.

Thats what I did also I got the auto metter gauges with the pod I work at kragen auto parts at night as a second job so I just bought a 1/4 brass fitting before I even put the guages in. When I saw the cheap plastic one with the kit I knew that it wouldnt work.

Yep it is hanging. I tapped on it and it dropped back down. I need to contact the supplier and see if they will send me another one.

Well I finally got my replacement gauge in. It works much better, no sticking. I have seen 18 psi from it.
