I have a 2004 f 550 6.0 psd w/ 113,000 miles the other day a loud constant popping noise came from the left side of the motor as i was waiting for my son.
I drove home slow and the noise would increase as the rpms would increase.
This noise is so loud that people were turning and looking at me as i went by.
I hear it all times including at idle. Any help on what is causing this would be greatly appriciated.
my 5.4 did that when a spark plug blew out of the head (compressing gasses coming out of the spark plug hole). I don't know a lot about diesels, but maybe a glow plug out of place could cause the same thing? I don't know if they just thread out like spark plugs.
exhaust leak is what i was thinking, thanks. i have loss of power but water temp is good and no coolant leak. I will look at my glow plugs, i did have a problem with them staying on last year .Thanks for the ideas there good places to start.
No not yet, I had to go out of town this week and will be gone all of next week so i will take it in when i get back.Sorry. But as soon as i do, i will post the results. Thanks.
