loud popping noise at all times

I have a 2004 f 550 6.0 psd w/ 113,000 miles the other day a loud constant popping noise came from the left side of the motor as i was waiting for my son.
I drove home slow and the noise would increase as the rpms would increase.
This noise is so loud that people were turning and looking at me as i went by.
I hear it all times including at idle. Any help on what is causing this would be greatly appriciated.

Off the top of my head, it sounds like an exhaust leak. Any other symptoms, loss of power, coolant leak, high water temp, etc?

my 5.4 did that when a spark plug blew out of the head (compressing gasses coming out of the spark plug hole). I don't know a lot about diesels, but maybe a glow plug out of place could cause the same thing? I don't know if they just thread out like spark plugs.

please be sure to report back what you find......but if it sounds like a his/ticking noise its prob a exhaust leak maybe from a cracked manifold.
