headers

I have a 66 F100 with a 1974 - 302 motor am thinking about putting in a set of headers and was wonderin what you all have used. Seems to be plenty of space. Would like something that wont make changing plugs a big deal.
Thanks
Lui

Welcome to FTE. Have a 65 F100 w/ 302 and installed set of Hooker long tube headers. Found the exhaust flange on passenger side rubbed against the crossmember so removed small amount of material using angle grinder. Also will need to lift engine slightly to install the headers. If should you decide to go with the power steering upgrade, long type headers should not present a problem. Suggest run a search, topic has come up on occasion where 'shorty headers' were mentioned. Not sure if 'short type' headers would present problem with upgrades. Couple pic's of engine in my gallery, although don't think able to tell much. If intend a 'do it yourself' exhaust system suggest taking a look at the Hedman 'offset' extentions to address getting around the transmission crossmember. Here are couple of cool pic's another member posted on how he modified the crossmember to address the issue. Again, welcome to FTE.

Shories fit in almost the same space as a stock manifold. The exception being that spark plug wire placement is tighter. Not as much wire room as a set of long tube headers. Pretty much all header designs follow the same concept with slight differences like header flange thickness or tube size/shape. The thicker the flange the better it will seal from less warpage prone to thin flanges.
