I'm trying to remove my IP from my 93 E350 van to have it rebuilt. It's a 7.3 diesel (not a turbo) and I'm down to the three mounting bolts. The top one is not a problem but the side ones I'm having trouble with. Any tips or a special tool to get to the bolts? Thanks in advance.
http://webpages.charter.net/idi_diesel/tools_001.htm read thru this it should help a little. i hear that some people use a 9/16 starter wrench from sears(about 16 bucks). i have also heard that a 9/16 crow foot with a swivel and a 8" extension works good to.
you can take an old 9/16 wrench and grind it down to fit along with removing the two bolts that hold the drive cover in place. DONT REMOVE the drive cover, inside the little cover on the drive cover is 3 bolts. Remove them and the pump will come off with some maneuvering with all the injection lines still attached. This way you wont loose the timing alignment in the gears.
thats the one. there is a little cover on the front of that cover that is held on with 2 little bolts. Inside that cover you will find the 3 locking bolts for the injection pump. when you get the new installation kit, those 3 bolts will be with the kit and have locktite on them. Use the new ones !
