I finally had some time to do the hub swap on my 1996 Bronco today. I'm swapping out the auto hubs for a set of Warn premium hubs. Question? How the heck do I remove the lock ring? The directions say to use a small screw driver or hook. I don't have either one of these right now, but I did try using an old large fishing hook and anything else I could shove in their. The lock ring is almost impossible to get out. It just spins in the groove. Does anyone have any tips they can offer me? Does anyone happen to live in Illinois and want to lend a hand?

you need snap ring pliers (internal i think, some kits have both internal and external pliers and different size tips)..a good kit to have for future bearing/hub work!! have a napa or pep boys close by? ood luck dude!..btw, Im in nk, sooo

I was told on the Broncos list to use either small screwdrivers or some dentist tools. I'm going to go shopping for those tomorrow and give them a try.
Thanks!

Howdy,
i had the same problem. I got a 95 Bronco, and did the swap it was a hard process sincer i had no idea how to do it, but now it is a breeze. The hardest thing is that one c-clip locking ring on the out side as you take off the hub cover. I think thats what your talking about. I used 4 picks. i got um at the local ace hardware. They are super sharp and got above the ring and then i pulled that piece of S**T out. That was the hardest part of the whole conversion. The Warn Hubs are the best thing i have put on my bronco. By far, the auto hubs unlock when uyou switch from Drive to Reverse. And would take about 10 feet to reingage. now you will never have the problem ever again, and they will save you form getting stuck 90% of the time.
Hope that helps. And I would be glad to help ya, but Im in Texas. Sorry, but good luck!!
Yes i did jack the truck up. I took off the tires also. The main reason i did that was to take the rotors off and replace them, but i would jack it up and take the tires off if i did it again. I might have said it above, but also while your at it i woiuld recomend and i should have regreased all the berrings. this a way you don thave to come back and do it again later and take the whole thing off.
