tranny

i have a 2003 7.3 with 130,000miles and i would like to add a chip ,exhaust, and all that stuff. i just bought it and i believe it has a mild chip in it cause its faster than a stock truck but cant touch my old mans cummins that has just an intake and chip set on extreme. i would like to go with the bully dog for now then eventually and upgraded turbo with an intercooler but im concerned about my tranny with it being my d.d. i dont know if it has ever been rebuilt but i dont want to put a chip in then blow my tranny. i would like to know everyones opinion. i have seen people put the banks or bully dog (i forgot) transmission kit with the converter while upgradeing turbos but i dont know about the ford trannies. i would like some opions on whether i could get awat with an extreme chip then get a new tranny then the turbo upgrade do the tranny first. Any opinion is greatly appreciated. thanks

BTS VB, 6637 filter for intake, MKO 5"exhaust(look on ebay), dp tuner for a chip(will WAY outperform banks or bully dogs stuff), PI stallion torque convertor.

Do not go with bully dog or banks stuff, there is much better out there cheaper.

well, you could run the BTS valve body, that will help your trans last the longest, then when it goes you can go with a full built BTS trans for about 4500 which is pretty much bulletproof and by what i hear is customer service is top notch!

i dont beat on my truck i never punch it maybe 2 tims a week lol what do you think would happen if i got an upgraded turbo/intercooler kit with a mild chip and ran it on my stock tranny with a new valve body like you said and shift kit and that stuff. also could i get away with running an upgraded turbo with stock intercooler for a little bit?? i would like to buy the turbo/intercooler then buy a tranny cause i dont beat on the truck so im thinking i could get away with it till i got the money for a new tranny

well the vb is like 200 and some change so its a small investment for longer tranny life. You can run a bigger turbo with a stock I/C.

What are you looking for in your truck?

no you wont beat ur dad unless you got more than that, for a low 13 high 12, you will need injectors, turbo, head studs, intercooler, fuel system, amongest other things....

More people with more knowledge should chime into this thread about how to get into the low 13 high 12s. I know its not possible without those things i listed though, there is more also. That is just what i know you will at least need.

basically if your looking to build that much power, yes you will need to get your trans rebuilt by BTS, so you will not have to worry about it. You will need different rods, since your PMRs, dont hold well over 400hp. Your lookin at about 7000$ right there. Thats just for the trans and the block with forged which should hold if you only get on it here and there. If you want to go farther, billet rods, mahle coated pistons, the list goes on but its gets expensive. I got a buddy around here with a CR who thinks hes the cats meow since he stacked boxs and the truck is quick, but all i say is at least i dont own an ugly truck, and my truck is much stronger. The cummins is an awesome motor, but the truck its in is a POS.
