Hi guys,
I have an 86 f150 with the fuel injected 302. While out driving yesterday my truck just stalled while cruising about 50 mph. I tried crankin it and it doesn't turn over. Normally when i just turn the key, i hear a humming sound for a second. After it stalled, i don't hear it anymore. My question is what is the sound coming from and is that what could be the problem? Any help would be great, because having to tow my truck really sucks. Thanks.
Sounds like a fuel pump died but thats my opinion. When you turn the key to ON the fuel pump is suppose to prime the injectors, which is the noise you hear.
Did you hit a bump or pothole right before it died? You're truck has an inertia switch located in the cab on the passenger side on the firewall just to the right of the heater duct. It has a buton on top that is pushed in when set. You might want to see if that's tripped.
I checked the switch earlier and pressed it once, and nothing. But if it were the fuel pump, would it be the high pressure pump? and where is that pump? Thanks for the help guys.
check fuses first. mine burnt out while i had it in the paint shop and they called me saying they had to push it around shop cause it wouldn't crank. soon as i got down there and turned the key on i noticed you couldn't hear the pump, so i checked the fuses and it was blown. good thing it was that. cause the pump was new and if it had gone out after only a month i was going to be p*ssed.
