Anyone have a NOS or used working temperature sending unit they can spare? It's for a 12v ['56] 312.
Or know where I can get one?
Bought one from one of the catalogs, it's a cheap foreign unit that doesn't work right. Only goes down to high normal with the ignition on. I tried momentarily grounding the wire and got full cold on the gauge so I think the gauge is ok.
Can anybody help me with the engine temperature sending unit? This is for a 1956 12 volt 312 and it's the unit for the gauge that pegs at the hot end when the power's off.
The 1956 temp sending unit was used for one year only, and was tough to find 20 years ago. It is the same for all trucks, Ford passenger cars and Thunderbirds. I would think that today, someone has reproduced them.

Haven't bought one, but they're listed in the CASCO [Classic Auto Supply Co.] catalog, Untitled Document, 10911A for '55 [292] and '56 [292 & 312], 10911B for '57 [312]. $14.00. Their removal puller is TL-5 for '55-'56 and TL-6 for '57, $15.75.
My truck is a 55 and I am planning on using the MF or LCM 12v conversion gauges which comes with a sending unit from what I understand. So then I guess I need the 55 bushing to go with it.
Has anyone installed one of these bushing? If so what is involved? Just pounding it in to the block where the freeze plug is now Is there any sealant needed?
Oh Duh, it sez what year your truck is in your signature.
Anyway, Yes they install like a freeze plug. I think they may be slightly tapered. Don't use sealant because it will insulate the sending unit from a good ground. You need to find out the size of the sending unit that you are going to use so you can get the proper size bushing.
