I have a 86 F150 with a 360 that I think the last owner swaped in (or did they put the 360s in that year?) with an auto. Im running 36X12.5's right now but I would like to go bigger later on the tires. I dont have any idea what the gears are in the front and back. The truck will be only a weekend thing some highway use but mostly in the dirt. I would like to have a bit more power out of the engine. Is the 360 worth rebuilding? or should I swap in a 351? what are some of the pros and cons of the two engines? and were can I find a master rebuild kit of the 360 if i keep it? What are some ways I can get the horse power up? If you know have a 360 plz post up what youve dont to it had about hown much Hp and Tq you think your putting out? thanks guys
360 didnt come factory that year. You can tell if its an FE (360 is in the FE series) by looking at the intake manifold, if it goes under the valve cover its an FE. The inner about 1/3rd of the valve cover bolts ontop of the intake.
If it doesnt then you have a 302 or 351w.
If it does indeed have a 360 (Ford quite making them in 1976) somebody did a little work to get it there, since the FEs were long gone before the 1980 style trucks were around.
