Hi folks. I presently own a '99 Expedition with the 4.6L V8. We use the truck primarily for towing our RV Trailer. Except for some minor problems which I would consider commonplace with a truck this old (102,000 mi), the 4.6 has been a workhorse.
I decided to explore getting a truck with more ponies and was considering either an X or a Navigator with the Intech engine. A dealer has a 2001 Navigator on the lot with 100K miles for a pretty good price ($10,500). Now, I know the 4.6 is a reliable engine, but what about the Intech? Any folks here would like to tell your tale? If you have used it for towing info on the performance would be appreciated.

The 5.4L 32V engine makes way more power and torque than the 4.6L and runs circles around it's 5.4L 16V cousin. I have a 30 ft RV that I tow with my F150-it weighs 5100 lbs dry. It's usually around 6000 lbs loaded, and the truck tows it OK,but you know it's back there. I have towed it with the Navigator, and it tows the trailer much better, with plenty of power to spare. The Navigator has just over 120K miles now,and gets better mileage towing than my F150 does.

Johnny, do you pull mainly in flatlands or hills. We live in Central VA and routinely pull over the Blue Ridge and down I-81 where it is hilly. This is where I am looking for the performance boost (hills).

I'm in SE Texas,so it's a mix of hills and flats, and the Navi takes them with no problem. The other things that are good about the Navi...the 4R100 trans(much stronger than the 4R70W),and the larger rear axle-9.25 or 9.75(I can't ever remember which it is),and the 32V 5.4L is so much more powerful than the 4.6L.
