how to time an IP
hi, i have a question about the timing of the IP on my 85. i put a used IP on it by keeping the gear housing on the motor. it runs good and all but i just stuck it back on there and ran it. how should i put it back where it should be if it isn't already. somebody said i would have to use a prybar to be able to turn it with the steel lines hooked up.

you really should take it to a shop and have them time it because it does take some special toolsl that are expensive. if you just lined up the lines on the pump and housing it will run but it wont be at its full potential.

Once you know your injectors and IP are correctly installed it's a good idea to have someone that has the luminosity probe and knows how to time it do the job.
If you don't get it timed right you will be very unhappy next winter when it won't start!
It only has to be a few degrees off to make it very hard (or unable) to start in cold
weather.
