Question MSD Ignition box

Im thinking that Id like to install an MSD type ignition box for economy and general street use. I have a 1986 2wd with carbureted 4.9 six and auto trans. I looked at the MSD website and found quite a large selection. Can anyone who has had experience with these tell me what worked well for them? Ease of installation is important to me. Thanks

I have had a great expirience. But and this is a big but, let me qualify it. I had a very poor functioning "factory" ignition unit. I had the opertunity to pick up a used one cheaper than a replacment factory unit. Although it does run sweet and smooth.

I have the msd6a. installation was pretty darn easy. took about 30 -45 mins.

The factory ignition is pretty good with a fairly hot spark. MSD makes a "5" series that works just like the factory unit. To get anything better than the factory unit, I believe you will have to get the MSD6A, which is a cd unit with multiple spark output at lower rpms, which the factory system doesn't have.

I just put an MSD6T on Hoss, (86 F-250HD, 460 4x4), about 2 months ago. I can't believe the difference in power and the idle quality. It took about an hour for me to install it and it was well worth it. I can't say I've seen any mileage increase, but the power is there for sure.
