engine light (not check engine light)
engine light (not check engine light)
Hey, I was plugging in my check engine light bulb and socket, and I noticed that there was another empty slot between the CEL and the left turn signal indicator. All it said was "Engine". Anyone know what this is for?
Apparently it DOESN'T just detect the presence of the engine, cause I checked, and there is an engine but the light doesn't come on!
Seriously though, if anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.

My '88 has 2 engine lights. The CEL lights up yellow, and the ENGINE light lights up red. They should both light up when you turn your key right before the engine starts. I think the yellow CEL is just a warning light and the red ENGINE light is more serious. Although, I'm not sure.
I believe the red engine light signifies oil pressure below a certain level. PO of my 250 installed aftermarket oil press. and coolant temp guages and I've noticed that my red engine light comes on intermittently and seems to be directly related to a low oil pressure reading on the original stock guage. I think the PO wanted the external guages for 2 reasons...number one, the truck was a dedicated 5th wheel hauler and 2 because the stock guages were getting a little flaky...haven't had the chance to verify that the light means low oil pressure but far as I can tell it only lights when the stock oil pressure guage is being goofy and reading low. BTW , my external guage reads 50 psi on startup and drops down to 38-40psi after warmup whereas the stock guage never gets too far past 1/3 scale if it even makes it there.
my engine light must be messed up then. My CEL works fine now, but the engine light doesn't light up. It doesn't light up when I start the truck (like when the CEL lights up). Also, I removed the stock oil pressure sending unit and put in an aftermarket. So, the truck 'thinks' I have 0 oil pressure, but no light. The bulb is new, as well as the socket. I guess I'll see if the circuit card is a little dirty or something.
