Well, I ordered it on 04-02-07 and it hit the lot on 05-10-07.
Ride and handling are improved over my '05.
I can't believe how quiet it is, I can't even hear the V10 growl inside the truck. No heat ticking from the exhaust either. That never bothered me on the '05 though.
The lie-O-meter showed 14.2 mpg on the highway and is now showing an average of 11.2, with just 100 miles now! I didn't see that kind of mileage from my '05 until it had around 500-600 miles on it. The mileage doesn't make me miss the 5.4 F150 one bit.
Pictures are in the gallery. I can't seem to post one in the thread.
Great to be back in the saddle with the BSEG boys!
Try as I might there does not seem enough wear n tear on my 35,999 mile old 05 to trade away for a newer smelling 2008 version... however.... I am appropriately jealous of your new ride Brad, enjoy the new ride!! BSEG to you brother
our 08 v10 kk 2x4 dualie shop truck is giveing us no more then 8 right now with out towing. dealer states no problem found it's how you are driveing it and had the brass to say you should have gotten a diesel in it.
The suspension is significantly retuned. Handles and rides much better than my '05 did. No signs of bump steer at all.
The original oil was still pretty clean when I changed it. The OEM filter was a PITA to remove.
The exhaust is super quiet, too quiet. There are no welded on heat shields, all are clamped on, so very little heat ticking. There is an odd little resonator in the bend of the exhaust behind the rear axle, kind of hidden. Smaller than an Excursion resonator. I suspect it's responsible for the lack of growl at the tailpipe. I liked that growl on my '05.
I have found no loose connections, bolts or screws. No wires harnesses strechted too tight or misalligned pieces. The fit and finish is the best of any new truck I've bought. Fred would be proud. But I bet he would find something that I overlooked
Dash computer showed 11.6 avg MPG at the last fill up. Hand calculated showed 12 even. This truck will get a solid 15.5 at 55-60 mph on 2 lane highways and 14.5 at 70-75 on the interstate. And it's not even broken in yet!
I don't plan on pulling the boat to the coast for another few weeks, so no towing report yet.
The A/C is a little on the weak side. But that seams like a problem with most Super Duty trucks.
My wife loves the moonroof and thinks the power folding mirrors are the great, even though she never drives it.
Without the V10 badges on the front fender, the Dodge boys don't mess with me like they did in the '05. One slowed down next to me last night to take a good look, trying to spot what engine I had since he was looking at the front fender hard, then just slowly moved on. Only one guy has noticed that the badging on the vent says 6.8 triton V10. That was an F150 driver at the gas pumps. When I told him what I was getting for mileage he was impressed, Said he was only averaging 13 in a 4.6 2wd.
In summary. The truck is great so far. The only thing I don't like is the resonator. I can't really call that a complaint though.
I know the feeling about all the head-turning lookers! I've bought mine in mid-February and have had literally hundreds of people (mainly fellow Super Duty drivers) stare and comment on how sharp the new 08's look.
I've got almost 7,000 miles on my V10 now and love it. Before this I had an 02' V10 and was pleasantly surprised on the power inprovements the 08 has. I've pulled my 27' toy hauler with 3 quads, fully loaded with water & gas from one end of the state (AZ) to the other & back and am very happy. The integrated brake controller is amazing compared to the expensive aftermarket one I had in my 02.
Congrats on the new truck! I'm putting the 4" Rancho lift on mine next week.
Congrats on the new ride. I'm still getting used to my new to me 05, but as far as an integrated towing package, I can't imagine anything being much better than the V10/Torqueshift/Towcommand package. I got nearly 11 towing 8000 pounds over 700 miles recently with a lot of hills thrown in. No way I'll ever complain about that.
Congrads, Ford did a great job making them quieter. Do you have 4.10s? Smart move to the V10 to handle what you need. If I didn't need 17,000 Future towing capacity, I would have bought another V10. Surprised on my 450 with 4.30s at 60 mph 1900 rpms average 16mpg. At 65 mph at 2100 rpms it drops to 12mpg. I know on my V10 if I ran in 4th gear or 5th gear at 65 it didn't make much difference. Its great when more people realize the capabilitys of the V10, they should really sit down and look at their needs like you did. Congrads again, I know you are really going to enjoy it
With all these new 2008's showing up, maybe we can find out about the EGR on them?
I was looking at my new California emission equipped V-10 the other day to see if it has EGR or not. I see no piping coming off the exhaust manifolds to feed an EGR. Do the V-10's get the exhaust for the EGR from somewhere besides the exhaust manifolds?
