Hey guys, I did something stupid yesterday. I am prepping my 2000 EXPY for sale and decided to do a top to bottom clean job to increase the resale value. I even got the wild idea of washing the engine, despite the little voice in my head screaming, “No, don’t do it!” I bought some Citrus Gunk, soaked the engine and flushed it off with an open-ended water hose. I never used any real pressure because I didn’t want to get water where it didn’t belong.
Well, it seams like water got where it shouldn’t of….. Now I can’t tell if the transmission or engine is giving me problems. It might be both! At idle the RPM’s jump (engine problem). While driving, the entire truck stutters like mad when the tranny shifts gears, until speed is picked up in the new gear, even at 70 mph.
Any ideas as what to look at first, or should I just take it in to a dealer???
Thanks, Mr. Waterlogged

I did the exact same thing last summer. It turned out to be a coil pack. It takes about $75 and 20 min to fix. Dealer charges $318. I would bet the farm on coil pack. Have check engine light read to find out which cylinder is misfiring. If a light hasn't come on yet, just keep driving, it will come on. If I remember correctly, the cylinder order starts with front drivers side to back 1-2-3-4 then passenger front to back 5-6-7-8.

Check and see if the spark plug wells are full of water this has happened before. If so start drying and you may also need some new plug wires if the water has gotten into them to far.
I got a code P0302, #2 cyl missfire. Now my problem is I can't get my CD to work in my laptop to find out the P/N for the COP or where in the heck it is located. Anybody feel like telling me where the "COP" is? I assume it is near the spark plug (which of course, I will be looking for as soon as I get off work this afternoon) Thanks in advance - Dean
Passenger side, second one back. It is the thing that pushes down over the spark plug. Just go to your local autoparts store and tell them the year and model of your truck and they will give you the correct part. Motorcraft is ideal, but not necessary. It took me 10 min to change mine out.
Got it changed, 90% fixed, engine still misses a little. I think I know why, the #2 COP was a slightly wet. If it doesn't run better after a few days of dry out tme I will blow out all the spark plug holes.
Drove the truck for another half hour with the engine missfiring. Finaly got an engine light again, #5 COP bad. Changed it, now the truck runs smooth as silk. $150 later and my engine is nice and clean (and it will never get cleaned again as long as I own it!)
There is nothing wrong with washing your engine. Just make sure that you don't get water into the plug holes and if you do, dry off the COP and boot and be on your way.
