Maximum battery physical dimensions.

07 F150 XL

The current battery (Motorcraft BXT-59) seems pretty small, physically. The box it sits in has a large gap all around the battery. The top says 540CCA, which seems kind of wimpy to me.

I was wondering what the largest size battery I can fit in, physically. I have been reading about different "group sizes" but I am more confused now than when I started. I am not planning to replace it soon, but the info would be nice to know down the road.

The truck did sit on the lot for 6 months with (I assume) no driving, since I got it with 6 miles, so I have no idea if it has been damaged. So far it works fine although I think it should start up more forcefully. My wife's Escape with the original (very small) OEM battery seems "snappier" when starting. I have no idea what size her battery is.

Thanks!

If you go to the parts store, I see they offer a 850 CCA battery for your truck. I don't think physical size has much to do with it. I went to www.partsamerica.com and plugged in your truck and they had a 850 and a 675 available. I did plug in a 5.4 v8.

I have no idea if this will help anyone, but here goes:

Group 59:

Group 65:

The larger battery also has the advantage of having removable cell caps, so you can add water if necessary. Some people aren't into that but I am.

From the reading I have done, Interstate is the ticket for batteries. I think Motorcraft batteries are made by the same parent company. In the same size the Motorcraft batteries are rated a bit lower.

That size battery goes on Motocycles here in Canada ...except the west coast

I have a 1000 CCA battery and 2 other 850's

Exide makes a lot of the batteries these days.

I think Johnson Controls makes Interstate and Motorcraft. I do know that Sears Die-Hard batteries are pieces of junk.

I used to live up north, which is why the Group 59 battery struck me as a bit inadequate. But down here I bet it would have been fine.

I bet Ford sends different batteries to different regions. Like my F150 doesn't have an engine oil heater thingie and I bet yours does.

I sold the OEM battery for $40 so my out of pocket was $60. The dealer wanted a lot more for some upgrade package that included a more powerful alternator. I figured it would be cheaper to do it myself, and I can't picture needing a more powerful alternator with as little as I have running.

Maximum battery physical dimensions

Can you fit 'TWO' optima yellow top batteries in the space as the orginal 2007 F150 5.4 OEM location?

I am considering a dual battery system but don't know where the second battery can fit. The optima yellow top appears to be a physically smaller dimension battery.

Any one have a dual battery set up in a 2004 plus 5.4? If so where did you fit the second battery? Photos would be helpful.

Thanks,

RadarRick
