Leaking rear grease

There is a valve on the left rear end that seems to serve as a connect valve for the rear steel brake lines and a breather for the rear end. I notice fluid leaking from it at the cap onto the rear and it smells like rear-end grease, not brake fluid. I cleaned the cap off last week and it does move freely up and down. I have heard rear end grease will leak out if the breather cap is not functioning right, but not sure what the leak is being caused by. I did not pull out the drain plug to check level yet.

Any suggestions and should I be concerned?

That is the axle vent.
Not grease... should axle lube oil.

When pressure tries to build up in the housing that vent is supposed to release it.

Normally there will be a greasy stain around the cap due to oil vapor escaping. How much of a leak do you have? Is it dripping constantly?

Have you checked the lube level in the differential?

Have you driven into high water recently?

I just got the truck, so I do not know how the PO drove it. It takes about a week of driving to show up on the axle. It is a decent amount to cause a drip off the axle. Guess I will monitor it for a while and check the level.
