I have a 97 expedition with 379,700 miles with the same transmission, same engine and believe it or not, with the same serpentine belt. I've yet to have any major problems with either the tranny or the engine. I was wondering if any of you ford enthusiasts have had similar luck or known of anyone with such a great vehicle?
That is great to hear. My 97 is the 4.6 with 213,000. I have had to change the serpentine belt just recently but nothing else major. How long have you had yours?
You know, from day one, all I've ever used was the supertech oil (Wal-Mart brand) 20w50 and their oil treatment brand whenever I would have the oil changed. I'd regularly change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals and I've had maybe one or two transmission flushes (before I hit the 100,000 mile mark).
My friend has a red 98' eddie bauer expedition 5.4 with over 300k original tranny and motor hes beat the hell out of it and it just keeps on going even the paint looks fantastic for its age beisides a faded colored grill
Yeah, I have a black 97 eddie bauer with the 5.4 and those engines just will not quit! Just as your friend, my paint still looks great to be 10 years old. I was hoping Ford would put myself and other expedition owners with over 300k miles in an advertisement for the 10 year anniversary of the expedition. Definitely wouldn't hurt business!!

Honestly, my dad told me that an engine that size should have a thick oil to keep it running slick especially, since I keep it in the highway a lot. The majority of my miles are highway miles and the thicker oil allows my engine to run smoother at higher rpm's. Hey, I just know that it has served me well and I can't really debate 379k+ miles on one engine.
Sadly my paint and trim has suffered through intense Colorado sun and now upstate New York salt. I am also looking into a tranny flush here real soon. Your'e right cakelly about Ford doing a commercial. Other car companies have high mileage clubs you'd think Ford would do it too.
You know, I'm actually afraid to get a tranny flush at this point because, all of the old gunk holding it together may get flushed out...and I'll end up having problems. That would be my luck but, I couldn't really be mad about it...not at this juncture.
That's what I'm talkin about!! I like hearing that your expy has those many miles, definitely gives me courage to keep on rollin! Have you had any engine or tranny replacements or any major problems? Oh yeah, I truly believe in preventative maintenance, because neither of us would've made it this far without it. I haven't had any problems or concerns so far...and believe me, I still require my truck to run like new. But, aside from that, I think your truck needs to be in some sort of commercial or advertisement.
Keep crankin' those miles out!
