and I could not find the rear end that is in my 49' F2. It splits in half with the length of the truck, kinda like a model A. What type of rear end do I have? Sorry for the newbe questions, I am a truck virgin.
You have a Timken 51540 rear axle. They aren't the strongest rear axle. They have a habit of blowing the rear pinion bearing which is no longer available due to it being an odd size. If you are planning on driving the truck then a 67-72 F-250 Dana 60 is a bolt in replacement.
The web site you quoted is a good site. There are many articles for you to review and get to know. As 51dueller said, Timken, as it said on the site you have listed. It's just below the rear axle pictures. Have a great day, chuck
I see a 51524 Timkin in that list but not a 51540 in that list. Dana 60's are rare in this area. They are worth more then my truck. Commin usage in muscle cars.

1948/1950 F2-F3 have a Timken 51524 Rear Axle. According to the Ford Truck parts catalog (Section 40A-Parts List # 69), the front and rear pinion bearings are the same: 48-4621-B (Industry # 27880)

Guess I goofed on the model number but it has 3 pinion bearings like a 9". It's the last one that always blows. Ford calls it a pilot bearing for some reason. When it goes it takes the ring and pinion and that half of the case with it. I've had two of these axles. One was completly shot and the other had the one half replaced from a later model truck.
