I wait an additional 5 to 10 seconds after the squiggle light goes out before I turn the key. Mine cranks for about 2 seconds before it starts.

As soon as the light goes out mine start right up. It's harder to start warm than cold.

What model year Chevy and Dodges are you comparing it to?

You really cant compare the PSD to the Chevy's or Dodges, it's like apples and oranges. In general I have found that 2-3 seconds is the average crank time for the 6.0. That is counting one-onethousand, two onethousand etc. It does vary slightly by temperature as oil viscosity changes by temp and effects how quickly pressure is built. Oil pressure is the main component in starting a PSD.

As far as I can remember, all Duramax's start right off the bat and Dodge is in the middle with the 6.0s taking the longest.

With the A/C, I've noticed it typically cranks more times but nevertheless, the 6.0 cranks more than the rest.

I like it.

Oil pressure frequently gets the blame and it may have an effect to a certain extent. International however claims that no manufacturers diesel engine that is designed to meet 2004 emission standards (EGR) starts as quickly as their prior year engines. Whether or not International is correct about the other manufacturers engines may be open for debate but I can tell you the 2004 and newer DT466s sure don't "crack off" like the earlier ones did either.

Just had mine in for service and one of my complaints was the longer than normal cranking time. For the last two weeks or so if my truck sat for a couple of days it would take maybe 6 or 7 seconds of cranking before lighting off. The tech found no codes but may have done a flash on the computer as it is now back to the 2 to 3 second starts.
