Let's say I don't want my interior lights coming on when I open any of the doors. But I do still want them coming on with I manually turn them on using the dashboard switch. Can this be accomplished?
In the Owner's Manual, and out of over 100 fuses, I can't even find a fuse listed as providing power to the interior lights. WTF is up with that?
I have found a fuse that has the the interior lights circuit, however, that same fuse also has the electric window circuit, and it has something to do with the automatic transmission, i.e. I pulled out the fuse: lights out (good), windows don't work (bad), and transmission won't go into drive. (very bad).
I had some toggle switches on my '01 X that would disable any input from the door ajar switches. On the '01, the switches were on four separate circuits, and I could turn one or all off as wanted.
All I did was study the factory wiring diagram to determine which wires at the GEM I needed to splice into for the switches. The toggles were mounted just behind the lower edge of the dashboard, and were easy to reach.
Get yourself the factory wiring diagrams (from helminc.com) and have a go of it. It's not hard. I'd offer my information, but I doubt it would apply to newer X's (I know my '05 is different), and besides, I tossed the data out a few years ago.
Hmmm ... I think I'll sell my '01 factory manuals on eBay.
