Steering Question

Hey guys, first time posting here so go easy on me. I searched thru the forums but couldn't come up with what I was looking for. I'm in the process of upgrading the steering on a Model A Ford coupe I'm working on and I want to keep it a traditional style 50's hot rod as I can. Most people use the steering boxes out of the 1948 to 1956 Ford pickups for replacement options. What I would like to know is how does the 1937 to 1947 Ford pickup steering boxes compare to the later model steering boxes?

Does the 1937 to 1947 Ford pickup steering boxes also use the drag link type pitman arm which comes thru the frame like the 1948 to 1956 Ford pickup does or does is it use a cross steering type setup? Any info or pictures would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to FTE!

My '36 both has cross steering, should be similar to your A, I'd have to take another look at my '42, but believe it too has cross steer...hence the reason most want the F1 box (48-52?) to use for the hotrods.

I think there's something diferent about the F100 boxes though, as most all seem to want the F1 boxes.

Hey 2 foolish, the 47 box is a cross steer,it is very similiar to a vega box. It uses a tappered rod end if i'm not mistaking. speedway sells a nice reproduction vega box for 199.99. I would use something like that because of the quicker turning ratio. that would work great on a model a.
