hi dan & welcome to our little family, as to the question at hand having owned both engines & being very satisfied with both in the crew cab duallt with auto transmission I would say it is more of a age of truck issue than anything else some of the early 6.0 engines had issues but they have been worked out & are now very reliable. If it was me I would get the truck I like most & leave the engine question out of it as they are both excellent powerplants (IMHO) good luck & happy shopping

I have driven a few 6 liters and a few 7.3 liters. I liked both pretty much equally. Ive heard of alot more problems with the 6 liter though. Ive also heard the 7.3 has less power, but gets better mileage. I personally bought the 7.3 after looking at all the different things, just cause it suited my needs better. One last thing that I thought of when I bought a truck with the 7.3, is how long they have been around for. They had 7.3's in what, 1988 or so? Till 2003. The 6 liter has been around from 03-07. To me that meant something.
