Reverse Sensing System Problem

Problem started (probably coincidental) after replacing the multi-function switch on my 2002 Excursion. The dash switch "off" indicator remained light from the moment the vehicle was put in reverse. I noticed the reverse lamp was not functioning and replaced. Now the RSS will function properly as long as I apply the brake, but as soon I release the brake the RSS "off" indicator illuminates and the RSS system is non-functional and subsequent applications of the brake toggles the RSS system. Any suggestions?

Why did you replace the multi-function switch?

The flasher relay was chattering due to a problem in the multi-function switch. Oddly enough, this relay would also operate normally when applying the brake.

Have you replaced the engine in the past? I am thinking grounding problems.

No I haven't. But the vehicle was a exec lease return when I purchased in 2003.
