Recall question

I have a question about the recall on the Super Duty trucks. I understand the particulate filter is catching oil/fuel and that is what is causeing the flames from the tail pipe.
My question is........ How is this being fixed. I was told something that I thought was just rediculious ....... The computer is being reprogramed and the truck powers down when the filer gets too hot. And ulitimatly the driveer would have to pull over until the truck cools.
I have found one source that backs that claim but only one.
Can someone please tell me how this problem is being "fixed".

Dave

From http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...ipe_fires.html

"The software upgrade resets the Super Duty powertrain control module on the Ford trucks to recognize improper levels of heat in the exhaust system. If heat is detected the system will power down the truck so the driver can pull to the side of the road and allow the truck to cool off. "

But only if there is something wrong with the truck and it ends up with fuel or oil in the exhaust system - for example - turbocharger problems.

As I understand it, in the original program when the Control module refreshed, it dumped extra fuel into the cyclinders, causing it to ignite in the tailpipe, reprograming the power control module, it eliminated that problem.

the recall affects the regen process. before the regen would start somewhere near 24-25 psi of backpressure. this was change to where it would regen at 31 psi. the flames out of the tailpipe is an injector issue, and almost all of those trucks were held at the plant and taken apart to have the injectors checked. there were roughly 800 trucks that were suspected of having faulty injectors. the others that are in public hands i believe had letters sent to them informng them of the problem and the fix.
