Compression Test Results
Hey I'm thinking of having my engine rebuilt. It has over 160,000 . Doesn't run as good as it once did. So I've decided to do a compression test. My question is what type of results have some of you seen. Does it matter what size an engine the test is performed on or are the numbers basically the same. my engine is a 351w. Also what have some of you heard about leakdown test.

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I did a compression test on my 351w which has 200,600. I got 130 on all cylinders except for the back two on the drivers side which are at 120. I I don't know if that is low, but I was told that compression should be between 140 and 160 in an email from partsamerica.com.

compression and leakdown tests can give youa good idea of cylinder condition, but they are not foolproof. to do it most accurately, i have found it best to do one test with engine cold, and one with it warm to account for oil thinning out and expansion of engine parts..
if in doubt, rip it out and rebuild.
