I have determined that I do have a Holley 2300 350cfm carb on my 292 right now but it is literally pouring gas into the intake. It is not the original and I have no idea what it came off of.
Right now I have 2 options. Just go out and grab a new carb or I could try to refurbish this odd carb. I think my jetting might just be off a few sizes. What were the original Holley carb's jet sizes? The Holley shop can't even figure out the numbers off of it. It is an oddball.
have you checked float level?
is your needle and seat good?
is you float good?
excess fuel pressure?
have you inspected the power valve for a blown diaphram?
could your metering body gasket be dried, cracked, etc?
My 56 272 has a holly 2100 on it. The parts store could not find it even listed in the holly books. This was a parts guy I know and trust.
We (parts guy and I) went and talked to an "old timer" (another parts guy) that has worked on vehicles for years. He said: "Oh...that's a holly number that was made for ford by holly." "Go look in the ford/motorcraft area of the book."
Sure enough...there it was. They even had the kit on a shelf. No ordering necessary.
Just get a kit, some cleaner (different in some states), and rebuild it. No reason to buy a new carburetor.
Dad re-buiilt mine while I was at work one night. Good as new. Fires right up and runs quite well.
I am sure there is, but it would be worth checkin the other area to find the kit. As far as I have been able to determine mine is stock to the 272. He has a larger engine.
It was completely rebuilt by the PO. I also have checked the powervalve, float, needle and seat, and all the gaskets are new. It seems to be fine at mid to high range but excessively rich at idle.
