Well after driving Ford trucks for close to 20 yrs we're giving up on them. We've owned 3 Rangers in the 90's with serious quality issues. My 93,95, and 2000 F-150,s were all good trucks with very few minor problems. Then I went to the 2005 FX4.Sharp looking truck. 1st the fenders were scuffed from transport i presume.then into the shop 3 time for the ac outlet in the dash, just changing fuses till they discovered bare wires behind the dash shorthing it out. Then into the shop for cam phaser replacememt. Then into the shop for fuel injector replacement. Then into the shop for valve seal replacemt cuz it was smoking pretty bad at start up( still smoked afterwards too).By that time I'm complaining to the dealer and considering going to an f-250 to tow the camper better.Asked the owner of the dealership what he would do to keep me a Ford customer. His answer and the salesmans answer? Maybe i should consider the extended warrenty because they dont have many problems with f-150s but once in a while you get a bad one.so the offered me mid book value on trade in or a 2100$ extended warrenty for 1800$ Then my rotors went bad at 25,000 miles and they wouldnt turn them under warranty and in fact wanted double the charge than the next guy to do it for me.So after giving them plenty of chances I decided to give Toyota whose across the street a try and guess what I'm driving now.Its amazing how poor product/customer service can make a guy switch loyalties in a hurry
Sorry to hear that.It sounds like you were a dealing with a lousy dealership.I've been fortunate, in the 17 years I've owned Ford trucks the only times I've had to go back to the dealership were for recalls.
P.S. Don't worry about it when people point and laugh at you for driving a Toyota.J/K dude they are good trucks and good luck to you.
Here we go again. Rather than use the forum to find an answer to a problem, we have another brand-jumper come on and tell us how dumb we are for owning Fords. Well, I can say that my 96, 01, and 05 Rangers were all very good little trucks, no quality or service issues. All were XL's too. Thanks for sending that cash to Japan and Toyota's HQ. Sure, a bad dealer can leave a bad taste in your mouth but that would make a case for switching dealerships, not brands.
Just remember, all brands have bad apples, you may have a similar experience with your Toy too. I hope you go to the toy board and rant there too.
I get a laugh when ever I see one of their trucks...they have a Sticker on the side that sez Toyota Racing Development and the big Letters TRD on the side...I'm sorry guys, I rather drive anything but a TRD. TRD?? Isn't that a piece of excrement? Who are their marketing geniuses?
I have driven Fords since the 1970's and there have been a few (TRDS) but most of them were quite good. I loved my 1970 Boss 429! I didn't even know what I had! I won't be in hurry to switch brands. Dealers! That's another story!

I have dealt with 2 different dealers over the years and have had better relations with the small town dealer where i live. Although the 2 rangers we bought were locators and arrived in terrible shape and needed to go to the body shop right away .But mechanically they were good. Both dealers did tell me they prefer any warrenty work to be done by the dealer who sold the truck. I did file a complaint with FMC about the dealer I had problems with and all the problems with the truck. I've had some great Fords and would have bought another one if they would stand behind them better.I dont know what to expect from the Toy truck and dealer yet ,but I do know what to expect from Ford. By the way my wife still has a sport-trac that we like alot and will probably trade next year for another one at the small town Ford dealer.
Oh I forgot. One fella asked how I like the Toy. So far its everything they claim, but time will tell. And I can send my money to "Toyota headquarters in Japan and the plant workers in Texas and Indiana" or "Ford headquarters in U.S. and plant workers in Mexico" To me that a horse apiece. Sorry bout the rant but Ive also used this forum for problem solving and to even brag about my Fords before. Thanks
Sounds like you have bad luck w/ some of your vehicles.Toyota makes a good dependable truck and I wish you all the luck in the world with it, but even the Toy's have their problems too. And the dealer you had to deal with doesn't sound very good either. Sucks they drove you to own a Toyota. No one .and nothing out there is perfect. As far as the rangers are concerned, well, they're rangers. Used to have to work on them, and didn't care for them at all.
