I own a 98' f150 ex-cab/sb, 4x4, 4.6L, auto 320000km's
My truck is hesitating and shuttering/shaking at all different speeds. When your accelerating or when your just cruising along. Doesn't seem to do it at low speeds as much as under load and higher speeds. Some times it pings or knocks and the odd time it pops in the exhaust below your feet. The check engine light is on. I put a scaner on it and it comes up as the left and right bank running lean. Vacumn at idle is around 16.
So far I've replaced the coil packs, plugs, wires, maf, fuel filter.
I've been searching through the forums for ideas?? Now what???????? Change all four o2 sensors, new catyletic converters, fuel preasure check?
I put a vacumn gauge on the truck and it holds a steady 16. As for fuel preasure it holds 30psi at idle, around 32psi going down the highway at 60mph. When I hammer on, it jumps to 37 psi. Never exceeds 37 though..
A recent problem I had with my 2000 F150 4.6 (177,000 miles) was that the check engine light would come on for a short time and then go out. The engine would not idle correctly and seemed sluggish. Thanks to this board, I read where the EGR ports in the aluminum plenum could be plugged. (the big aluminum elbow that the EGR valve bolts to) I pulled the plenum off and sure enough the ports were plugged solid with carbon buildup. I used a couple sizes of drill bits and hand drilled the ports out and used throttle body cleaner to clean the inside of the housing. Bought a new EGR gasket & plenum gasket from Ford for about $8.00. Put everything back together and it idles much better. Just got back from a 2000 mile road trip and the check engine light did not come on. BUT, I have another problem, unrelated to this, I believe.
