I have a 1966 f-100 with a 1982 400M block engine. It has a point distributor. After looking at the duraspark systems online my distributor looks just like a duraspark. Could it have been converted to points? If so should I go back to duraspark or to pertronix?
Two piece dizzy or the Duraspark II with the wider points and the three piece dizzy?
If you're running an 82 motor, I'm guessing DS II. Keep it, it was updated for a good reason (so I've been told, although I had less headache from my '70)
Convert it back to the DS-II blue grommet system. There are thousands of wiring harnesses and parts available on truck and cars in the salvage yards. Pick up a couple of Motorcraft DS-II modules and have them tested at the parts store. Mount the module on 1/4" spacers for cooling.
Ok, I can just put the duraspark stuff back on without taking out the dizzy right? How can I know if it is a duraspar distributor, it sure looks like one.
I have no idea what that number means. Pulling a dizzy is not difficult unless it has corroded and sticks. That will be a problem no matter what you do when you need to set the timing. Putting in a distributor is not hard either. I have done it enuf times I can do it in my sleep now.
