<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">OK now I'm confused. The TC on my E40D locks up around 35MPH and the trans shifts into 3rd at the same time. This is under normal start up. If I am in 1st or 2nd and trounce it, the TC immediately locks up. I thought the whole idea was for the TC to lock up as soon as possible? I also found out recently that the TC UNLOCKS if I put on the emergency flashers. Is this normal? I'm not happy with the way it "slides" into 3rd gear. I am going to check my FIPL and see if I can firm up that shift.

I've only really noticed the lock up in 3 and 4th gear (I assume this but could be I just don't notice it in the first two gears), but it does happen almost as soon as it shifts. The TC is designed to unlock if the brake is applied enough to turn on the brake light, so I assume the flasher perform the same function as they must power up the brake light as well!!
I checked my FIPL (1.2-4.3) and it seems to be smooth through the range. The tranny has 67K on the rebuild and I just changed oil and filter. The TC is heavy duty (new with rebuild). It seems to have always "slid" into 3rd and lock up the TC at the same time unless I really jump on it. Maybe this is norm for the E-40D. Anyway, thanks for the answers to my questions about the TC unlocking with the flasher on. Any more advice or info is greatly appreciated. Tom
